Description NORMAL PREGNANCY Pregnancy is divided into three trimesters. First trimester – is from the date of last period to 12 weeks of gestation. During this period the body undergoes certain changes to accommodate the pregnancy. During this period women are most symptomatic. Certain problems which the expectant mother can encounter are – mother1Excessive vomiting – hyper-emesis. mother1Giddiness and black outs. mother1Bleeding. mother1Vaginal and urinary infections. Care during 1st trimester mother1Medication – folic acid tablets. mother1Scans – early pregnancy scan and NT scan. mother1Visits – generally once a month visit. Second trimester is from 12 weeks to 28 weeks of gestation. The major events during this period is that the expectant mother starts feeling the fetal movement which is called as Quickening between 20 – 24 weeks . Care during 2nd trimester mother1Medications – Iron and Calcium substitution is started. mother1TIFFA ( Targeted Imaging for Fetal Anomaly) scan done between 18 – 22 weeks. mother1Special sugar test GCT /GTT is done. mother1Visits – generally once a month. Third trimester is from 28 onwards this is the final phase of fetal maturation period. Patient is advised to come to hospital in case of pain in abdomen, bleeding per vagina, leaking per vagina or any emergency. mother1Visits : Generally once a week till delivery.
